ie, “what is Ben surfing after he’s done all he’s supposed to do at work on a Saturday and can’t go home and he’s sick of watching Inspector Gadget with the volume down low?”
Background: The Lounge is Arstechnica’s “Anything goes” forum — all the non-tech stuff goes here. You have to be a subscriber to post in the forum, though anyone can read it. I haven’t been a subscriber since 2002, and only look in there on VERY rare occasion. They have other more specific non-tech forums, too, like the Velvet room (for matters of love and sex) and Soap Box (for political fun). Lounge is more entertaining for the variety of subjects, though. Here’s a sample of what I’ve read today:
- Restraining order against a business? Or get the F*$# out of my parking lot!
- I just spent 2 minutes fascinated by an english guys balls — links to a google video page that I can’t load here at work. Damned firewall. And it’s worksafe, despite the thread title
- Hot Sauce - what are some Ars favorites?
- Drug question: What things can MDMA be cut (mixed) with? — a fine example of what I’ve never understood about arstechnica. Threads about illicit drugs are OK, but threads about illicit software tread a thin line. Not that I condone either, but the former nets you jail time under many circumstances and the latter might get you sued. But this is a great thread for one post:
Sounds right. I smoked some weed that was dusted with PCP once and it SUCKED. I like drugs as much as anyone, but I do not understand why anyone would take that crap.
I did that once and ended up in Debo’s chicken coop, sweating like a goddamn slave.
Any thread that can insert a quote from Friday is OK with me.
Anyhoo… - I swallowed a bag full of ants… Contains an obligatory GSADYFT (go see a doctor you freaking tool) post.
- Ok, which Arsian made Rupert Murdoch’s MySpace site? — funny, in the “LOLLERS FAUX NEWS ARE BUSHITLER’S CHEERLEADERS” kind of way. It’s a way to unite the college crowd who know Murdoch’s a republican and that has to influence their news, but think Ted Turner, being a liberal, is much more balanced.
- The most I have ever paid for gas… $2.999 — 40-ish responses and only one even remotely threatens to hint at Bush, but doesn’t say it flat-out.
And on that note, I’ve run out of interesting threads (we’re digging into Late Thursday night, now). Inspector Gadget TWO is on now, and I’m ecstatic. Next time, I may dig into Something Awful and get more stuff.
