My first attended author-signing ever. I own several signed books, all bought from the same store, but due to work commitments (and one ill-timed brainfart) I’ve missed all of them.
I’m not sure what I expected, but I was VERY pleased to chat for a few minutes with Cory. He’s very nice, and seems genuinely humble. The event was a small thing, scheduled for about 30 minutes, though he went into overtime with the signing. He read one of the short stories from his new collection Overclocked, then took questions from the audience of about 30. After that came the signing, and he was chatting it up with just about everyone. Obviously he was posing for pics with anyone who asked, and he even seemed to remember a LOT about people he never met… he remembers blogging my entry about Atari’s copy protection, which in turn made it the second-most-popular entry on this blog, ever. There was another gentleman he chatted with about his blog, I can’t remember the name, but apparently it contains a lot of scans of tech manuals for older machines/computers.
I had a great time. I think I expected that.

Does he remind you of Ernest Hemingway? I don’t remember if I once read something about him and Hemingway, or if I came up with that on my own. But, there’s something there, right?
I’m so glad he remembered the Atari article. I was the one that sent it to BoingBoing and I was really hoping he would pick it up. So glad he did.

Sorry, gotta keep talking about this. That article was so long ago. Or so it seems. And I was so green about so many things (and still am). But, not about copyright or my thoughts and feelings on the same. And I find it interesting that you and I don’t see eye to eye on many some things (although we never talk about that), but on the topic of copyright, we do.

We never talk about it, but I do know that at least politically, we don’t see eye to eye.
It’s the same with Cory — and the rest of BoingBoing, esp. Mark — but as I get older I have learned to quit trying to convert people (or feel like I’m being converted) and enjoy the differences for what they are.
