I found out about new California laws that went into effect yesterday.  Interesting stuff:

It is now illegal to smoke in your car, if people under 18 are present.  Now, I’m all for the reduction of health risks that this intends, but come on… this is the very definition of “nanny state.”
It is illegal to use [...]

A veritable cornucopia of multi-link

It’s been a long, hard week at work (64 hours +… isn’t it great to be salaried?).  I’ve been saving these links, including one or two for a full-length post; alas, some of these links will sink into irrelevance quicker than Kevin Federline if I sit on them much longer.  So, without further ado:

Kate’s had [...]

Multi-link for 11/16

Marie has a round-up of alt-media looking at big media. Neat. I LIKE the idea of alt-media, though the execution is usually… lacking.
Kate’s got a write-up of some ugly browser advertisment behavior. Here’s the answer: the Firefox browser, with the Adblock Plus and NoScript extensions.
The UN worries about US control over the [...]

Hunka hunka burnin’ Multi-link for 10/22

Marie links to some commentary and burning questions on the RIAA’s stance on scratched media, among other questions. I’m lovin’ it.
31 ways to motivate you to exercise; or “31 flavors of feelin’ the burn.”
This woman is scared of the effect of jackhammers on her unborn child; burning one is perfectly OK. Yes, it’s [...]

It’s just been pointed out, I don’t know how long it’s been there. AT&T (which has apparently bought out everything under the sun) has included in it’s terms of service clauses that allow them to terminte your service if you are critical of them.
AT&T may immediately terminate or suspend all or a portion of [...]

Multi-link for 9/21

A snippet from one of Prince’s 21 nights in London. He STILL rocks. (Three songs: One I can’t name off the top of my head, “Anotherloverholenyohead” from the Under the Cherry Moon soundtrack, and a quick reprise of “Peach.”)
Tired of stringent American copyright laws? It could be worse. Achtung, baby.
Oh [...]

Cultural learnings of Kazakhstan make internet too expensive

From Arstechnica.com…
It’s really no wonder Borat had to make a special trip to America to obtain “Cultural Learnings of America for make benefit glorious nation of Kazakhstan.” It doesn’t seem like he could afford internet. For instance, from the article (all money converted to USD):
Unlimited dial up: $111/month.
Unlimited DSL: $3,555/month, modem [...]
